Four carpet trends for 2022

From interior designers to flooring experts, those who are an authority on carpeting are tipping its return to popularity in 2022. While a move towards more minimalist and easier to care for flooring has been a common choice in recent years, experts believe the turbulent events experienced since March last year have contributed to carpet’s comeback.

People have spent more time in their houses, often staying safe and working from home during government lockdowns. This has resulted in residences becoming even more of a sanctuary than ever before, and homeowners have been keen to make them feel cosy, comfortable and welcoming.

While there are many different kinds of floor covering available, no solution ticks all the boxes like high-quality carpeting. In the next sections, we’ll take a closer look at some carpet trends incoming for the new year.

1. All-natural options

A leading trend for carpets in 2022 is for homeowners to install options crafted from natural materials. Organic fibre carpeting manufactured from seagrass, sisal, jute and wool can create a stylish and subtle floor area with a careful balance of softness underfoot and texture for character. Natural materials can be both hardwearing and attractive to look at, and those seeking an environmentally friendly floor covering will find sustainable options easy to purchase.

2. Bold designs

Carpet trends also consider that very homeowner has their own style. While many will want a subtle background they can layer up with rugs, others will desire a more eye-catching appearance. As a result, bold statement carpets are also on trend for next year. Strong solid colours and dynamic prints have been a rising fashion in recent years that is set to continue in 2022. Experts advise that homeowners considering a bold move should try installing statement carpeting in a small area first to ensure it has the appeal they are after.

3. Selective palettes

Carpets that set a room’s colour scheme and work with the rest of its interior and furnishings are also in style for 2022. A selective colour palette where the carpet, curtains, cushions and upholstery all register on a scale of hues and tints never goes out of fashion and gives living spaces a cohesive look that is always easy on the eye. Many designers will select the carpet first and dress the rest of the room accordingly, but homeowners can also work in reverse, selecting carpeting that suits their existing colour scheme.

4. Step up the softness

Finally, for those wishing to ramp up the comfort levels and enjoy maximum cosiness, the return of plush carpeting is on the way for 2022. Deep-pile carpets offer homeowners the feel of sinking their feet into a luxurious experience. Available in a wide range of colours and patterns, these opulent options are offered in styles to suit all personal tastes and different room decors.

Whether you’re looking for subtle, bold or an all-natural look, there is no doubt that carpeting has made a major comeback and will be fitted in more homes across the UK next year.

What are the advantages of carpet squares?

Wall-to-wall carpeting has long been a favourite of homeowners and businesses looking for a plush appearance in their properties. However, it can take time and be expensive to install, not to mention being time consuming and tricky to care for. However, welcome news for those looking for a carpet without the cons is that another option exists.

Carpet squares, sometimes referred to as carpet tiles, can be an affordable and easy-to-manage option with many advantages. Read on as we look at the numerous benefits of this contemporary carpeting solution in detail.

Simple and swift installation

Compared to the complex process of fitting many types of flooring, from deep-pile carpets to engineered and laminate boards, carpet squares present a quick and easy option. Featuring a modular design, carpet squares are deployed individually to completely cover a floor surface.

This means that, unlike a large roll of carpet, they are easy to transport, simple to store and not laborious to move around. Carpets squares can be fitted by professionals or DIY enthusiasts alike. Many homeowners find they can install them on their own, while if the experts are called in, those employing their services find the job takes little time and causes minimal stress.

Hardwearing

Carpet squares are exceptionally durable. As they do not feature a thick pile, they tend to wear better than ordinary carpets, as no threads are pulled loose and carpet fibres don’t get clogged up with dust, which can lead to discolouration.

Easy to maintain

Carpet squares are incredibly easy to keep looking at their best. A smart move when buying a supply is to pick up more than you need. If an accident occurs and a tile is damaged or stained, you can simply swap it out for a fresh new square. Alternatively, if you don’t have spare squares, you can swap the damaged tile with one from another area where it won’t be seen, such as a carpet tile from underneath a sofa or bookcase.

Fortunately, carpet squares are very simple to maintain. Regular vacuuming will be enough to cope with everyday usage, and if an accident does happen, you can easily pick up the square impacted by a spill and clean it directly under the tap.

Cost-effective

Carpet squares look smart, giving living spaces and office areas an attractive appearance, and they are far less expensive than traditional carpeting. This makes them an excellent option when you have a strict budget for your project but still want to enjoy the warm look and feel of a carpeted space.

Versatility

A last boon of selecting carpet squares as a floor covering is how versatile they are. Available in an extensive range of colours and patterns you’ll easily be able to find tiles to suit existing dĆ©cor or your personal taste.

Carpet squares are also perfect for unusual-shaped rooms or rooms in which you may sometimes require underfloor access. Carpet squares can be simply cut to suit any area you choose and can be lifted up far easier than other flooring types when you need to reach pipes, electrics, and other building features.

In conclusion, carpet squares boast many advantages, including being simple to install, easy to maintain and versatile, and those looking for a hardwearing and cost-effective option should take this solution under consideration.

Attraction of unique carpets grows

Households and organisations that install carpets in their Chester, Wrexham and North Wales rooms have a wide range of patterns and colours to choose from, but some now want unique designs.

For example, the pub chain Wetherspoons has individually designed carpets in each of its over 800 pubs. These carpets are made by a well-known carpet manufacturer who weaves the carpets with designs that feature local images. It is estimated that each carpet costs £24,000.

FLAT’N, based in Cologne, Germany, takes plain wool carpets and uses digital printing to paint a design on them. It specialises in designing and producing bespoke carpets for business clients. Its print technology embeds dyes deep within the carpet pile to make the carpets durable and able to withstand a lot of wear and tear in high-footfall environments.

Bespoke carpets are expensive. A less costly alternative is to use carpet tiles in various colours and lay them in a unique pattern. In theory, it’s possible to make your own carpets, but this requires a high degree of skill and specialised machinery. A more practical do-it-yourself way to make a floor unique is to purchase a rug loom and make an original design rug that is laid it on the main carpet. Some people make attractive rugs from old cushions, clothes, sheets or other used fabrics.

You don’t need a bespoke carpet to make a room look unique. The particular combination of a quality carpet, decor colour, furniture, objects on shelves and art on the walls makes any room feel individual.

Bio-based carpets sales forecast to grow significantly

A report by Coherent Market Insights titled ā€œBio-based Carpet Marketā€ forecasts that sales of bio-based carpets will grow during the next five years.

Carpets come in two main types, synthetic and bio-based. Carpets made from synthetic materials include nylon and polyester. Bio-based carpets are made from natural fibres such as jute, wool and seagrass, and the report predicts bio-based carpets will have a compound annual growth rate of 5.45% during the period 2021 to 2026.

The sales growth is due to many consumers wanting more natural and sustainable materials in their homes. The recent COP26 climate change talks in Glasgow focused people on making more environmentally friendly choices when buying goods for their homes.

Wool carpets in Chester and North Wales properties are popular with people who want floor coverings made from environmentally friendly natural fibres without compromising on the look, durability and luxurious feel of wool. There are many pure wool carpets available that don’t use chemicals and additives during the manufacturing process. This makes them suitable for allergy sufferers with chemical sensitivities. Some wool carpets are coloured using dyes, but there are non-dyed wool carpets available.

Seagrass and jute carpets, for example, are available undyed. These bio-based carpets are eco-friendly and suitable for allergy sufferers.

Wool carpets are not suitable for high-moisture areas, such as kitchens and bathrooms, where they could be infected by mildew and mould. They are suitable for living rooms, stairs, hallways and bedrooms.

There are some environmentally friendly synthetic carpets. For example, ECONYL fibre is made from a mixture of regenerated nylon and recycled waste materials.

Artist turns carpets into works of art

South Florida artist Florencia Clement de Grandprey is turning carpets into art by painting pictures on them.

De Grandprey takes large rugs and carpets and spends around a month creating a work of art. She also makes 3D paintings featuring paint, fabric samples and mixed media. Her carpet paintings were inspired by a desire to paint on a much larger scale, but using easily transportable media. Carpets and rugs were her solution, as they can be rolled up for transportation. She incorporates the patterns of the carpets as part of her art.

Though de Grandprey likes depicting faces, she is not available for commissions to paint family portraits on carpets. She has created a series of carpet paintings that she calls ā€œGuardians of Sacred Spaceā€, which features faces of people of different ethnicities. She told WSVN 7News that:

ā€œI always try to represent different ethnicities, nationalities, just different looks, because I feel that everyone needs to be represented.ā€

The artist’s carpet paintings are inspired by a desire to empower people by reminding them of their inner warrior. The carpets are not for walking on, but are instead to be hung on the wall like other works of art.

If households are tired of either plain or patterned carpets in their Chester and North Wales homes, it’s unlikely that there are local artists willing to change them by turning them into works of art. An easier solution is to choose a new carpet from the wide range of patterns and colours available from a local carpet retailer.
